
PATRICK MCGILLIGAN AT NUI GALWAY Distinguished American film historian Patrick McGilligan is coming to NUI Galway to deliver talks to students at the Huston School of Film and Digital Media and on the BA CONNECT writing programme. At the Huston school (2:30 pm, Thursday 26th Feb) he will speak on the subject of his current work in progress - Nicholas Ray. Ray is one of the most talented and often under-rated directors of the Hollywood studio system who made such classics as Rebel Without a Cause, Bigger Than Life, They Live By Night and Johnny Guitar. McGilligan's biographies include the Edgar-nominated "Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Light" and the "New York Times" Notable Books "Fritz Lang: The Nature of the Beast" and "George Cukor: A Double Life". He has also written biographies of Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, Robert Altman, and James Cagney, along with the oral history "Tender Comrades: A Backstory of the Hollywood Blacklist" (with Paul Buhle). McGilligan is currently Fullbright Scholar at UCD. All welcome. Admission free
