
COLIN MACCABE on MODERNISM
Colin MacCabe is distinguished professor of English and film at the University of Pittsburgh and professor of English and humanities at Birkbeck, University of London. MacCabe was educated at St Benedict's School and the University of Cambridge where he began his academic career. In the 1970s he contributed to the Cambridge English Faculty where he taught the history of Early Modern and Modern English and Screen magazine where he helped to introduce film theory into English. From l985-2002 he divided his time between teaching English at the University of Pittsburgh and producing films and television first for the British Film Institute and then Minerva Pictures. Since 2002 he returned to full time academic work publishing books on Godard, T.S. Eliot and the Butcher Boy. He is Associate director of the London Consortium and Editor of Critical Quarterly.

In addition Colin MacCabe will present DEREK, a documentary he produced about Derek Jarman, directed by Isaac Julien and featuring Tilda Swinton, earlier this year. It is a film involving two courageous and innovative artists -one the subject and one the filmmaker - which provides a cinematic journey that illuminates the work and enduring importance of the late Derek Jarman.
